Gotland is more than just beaches. The island’s interior has many treasures as well. Lush green meadows and any number of historical sites lie hidden in the central parts of our island.
Towns in central Gotland
Roma is the chief town of central Gotland. Shopping centre, schools and workplaces, including Lövsta landsbygdscentrum, which runs rural development programmes, an upper-secondary school, etc.
Culture and history on central Gotland
Norrbys, in Väte, is one of the museum estates run by the Gotland Historical Museum. Here, in both the buildings and garden, time has stood still since the 1940s. A nature and culture trail winds its way through the leafy surroundings.
And yes, there are trains on Gotland! At Hesselby station in Dalhem, you can board the steam train Gotlandståget for a return trip to Eken one kilometre down the line. Find out what it was like travelling by train during the early 20th century.
The Dunbodi country shop museum shows how and what people bought at the store in days gone by. This particular shop was built in 1903 and has now been restored to its original condition. Dunbodi is at Dune in Dalhem.
Beautiful countryside in central Gotland
Allekvia änge in Endre, is a comfortable 10 km bike ride from Visby. A delicate green in spring, a flowering paradise in summer. Peace and quiet all year round.
Tjaukle änge in Viklau is a verdant oasis, far from the bare stony beaches.
